USC Concert Choir Christmas Concert. Larry Wyatt's USC Concert Choir entertained the club at our annual holiday luncheon December 3rd. As usual, the choir was extremely entertaining as they presented us with selections from their upcoming holiday concert series. The club presented the choir with a monitory donation and then the choir members enjoyed a delicious lunch compliments of the Columbia Kiwanis Club.

Jubilee Academy - A "Life changing" Columbia School. The Jubilee Academy (Heartworks Ministry) is one of our sponsored youth programs. Please read the article about their program on the WLTX website. This is a great example of how Kiwanis supports the youth of our community!

 

Evening at the Ballpark. Our club will be hosting our sponsored youth program kids from Carolina Children's Home, Heartworks, and our Key Clubs for a night of USC baseball. The Gamecocks take on the Buccaneers of Charleston Southern at Carolina Stadium on WEDNESDAY, May 12 at 7pm and we hope you can join the fun. This event replaces our regular Thursday, May 13th lunch meeting. For details click here.

Service Opportunity - CCH BBQ. On Saturday, May 15th beginning at 10:30 AM, we'll be helping our friends from the Carolina Children's Home (CCH) with their 23rd Annual BBQ Cook-Off Festival at the State Fairgrounds. Jack Rinehart , long time Columbia Kiwanian and Futurist Dies. Jack was very active in our club and many other community volunteer activities. He was full of life, and enjoyed sharing his visions of the future with club members at frequent lunch talks. Read his obituary from The State newspaper here.

 

Past President and Longest Serving Member, Jimmy Holmes Dies. Jimmy Holmes joined the Columbia Kiwanis Club in 1946, served as our club president in 1969, was a lifetime member and board member for many years. Read his obituary from The State newspaper here.

Walter Edgar to be inducted to Hall of Fame: South Carolina historian and former Columbia Kiwanis Club member Walter Edgar will be inducted into the 2008 South Carolina Hall of Fame later this month. Read the article in the State.

Ray Tanner, USC Baseball Coach, annual visit 2008:
Coach Tanner has visited our club the first meeting of the year for the past 10 years. This year's presentation focused on the new baseball stadium that will be ready for Fall 2008 practices and the regular season staring Feb 2009. He also briefed us on the new NCAA scholarship and walk-on rules and the projected Gamecock lineup for this year.
